Galveston Crime Stoppers Program began in 1976 from the efforts of a group of local citizens and our Police Department. Our Program now operates as an independent organization. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area.
As the surrounding areas developed and the population grew, the potential for crime increased. A decision was made by the board members and local agencies to include the central and northern areas of the county in the program.
In 2010 the Galveston Crime Stoppers change its name to Galveston County Crime Stoppers in order to extend services to all of Galveston County.
The headquarters for Galveston County Crime Stoppers was eventually relocated to the Galveston County Justice Center, which is located at 601-54th, st., Galveston, Tx. 77551.
The Galveston County Crime Stoppers program is made up of county volunteers who are willing to devote their time and resource to ensure that the program is a success and is open to all citizens. The program continues to exceed our expectations and has proven to be a valuable resource for local and county law enforcement.
Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community. |
The mission of Galveston County Crime Stoppers is to provide a method by which county, local, and school law enforcement receive information on crimes in a manner that aids in the capture of criminals. It also rewards the tipster for information that otherwise may not have surfaced. GCCS is committed to supporting all law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
